The poor lead animator had to explain to me, remotely of course, how to set the illustrations up for animation. In the example here you have separate layers for the fingers, the rest of the hands, and the forearms, the needle and two layers for the thread. The trickiest thing for me was having to overlap and underlap enough so that the movements wouldn't expose blank areas. In the final shot there are further layers for the rest of Richard, the nearest sections of island, the sky & clouds and whatever local fauna is flying around.
